A Winter Prediction

November 16th, 2011 · 9 Comments

I didn’t see any wooly worms this fall…none.  Nada.  I therefore assumed, as any well-educated Midwestern gal would do, we should expect a mild winter.  But then a friend who hunts informed me I must have missed the wooly worm season, because he’s never seen so many in his life.  This winter is predicted to be “brutal”.  Hmm, well, you see now, that information changes things.  Every year I hodge-podge the girls coats and snowbibs, et. al, together from stores, consignment, and wherever else I can find the warmest outerwear for the lowest price.  After hearing the news of the oncoming winter, I broke down and called Lands End.

I bought the Motherload.  The lady at Lands End informed me that not ONLY were the wooly worms thick, but they WERE ONLY ONE COLOR!  This science was new to me!  And the leaves dropped too late!  OH NO!  Apparently, we’re destined for the winter to end all winters.  I asked her if she meant similar to the winter of ’78?  No…she meant the winter of ’52.  As 1952 predates my birth by 20 years, I’m going to have to take her word for it.

There was only one thing to do: order 1 of everything, monogram it, and make sure it all matches (they were too hot to wear their teal snow bibs).  By spending a King’s Ransom on the girls’ winter accouterments, I have assured us we will have the most mild winter in recorded history.  A light spring jacket will be the most anyone will need.  These overpriced snow bunny ensembles will go completely unused, until they fully outgrow them, when a blizzard will hit.  Because, in Family Budgeting vs. The Fates, that’s how the math plays out. Stay warm, my friends…stay cozy.

On behalf of everyone else, I’d like to thank you for your extravagant expenditures on sub-zero, Arctic winter clothing, which will result in the rest of us enjoying the nice spring-like weather and having a good laugh at your expense. ;)

I have read on several blogs that the wooly worms were all black this year..which means cold, snow, no school, possibly no work, with emergency shut downs..So….. I also placed an order with Land’s End as Hubbies job is ALL outside work…Let’s Pray, we just paid Land’s End and all the Wooly Worms were wrong, and the weather will be LOVELY!!!
How will I ever deal without seeing Miss Alexa, If they are right? :)

I’ve noticed the girls wear matching clothing a lot. Do they enjoy that? I guess I always thought sister sibling rivalry would get in the way of wanting to look the same. Or maybe that was just me and my deep desire to be different (and difficult) as a child……..

Oh Lordy do they EVER want to match. They dig through their closets and try to match several times per week. I always begrudgingly matched my sister (and I’m sure the feeling was mutual), but I gave birth to the opposites. Life is weird.

I’m going to Lands End right now!! I hadn’t heard the wooly worms were one color. I don’t know what THAT means but it can’t be good.

I am with Lydia on this one and thank you for making the financial sacrifice so the rest of us can enjoy a mild winter. My boys will have to make due with the jackets that we have on hand. :)

I wish Lands End carried 18-24 month size but they do not. A Columbia winter coat and pants will just have to do for Raelyn this year. Is the generator next on the buying list?;)

No wooly worms on the west side either. Where was this fella hunting?? Tell ya what, if indeed your extravagant purchase assures us a mild winter, I’ll order the girls’ raincoats next year. Deal?

    Missy,

Absolutely, DEAL. I’ve heard the West Side is GUARANTEED a mild winter.
