Last March, I blogged about 85 degree days and daffodils. We were burning up, and I was sure the world was ending. No need to worry, because this March, Indiana has returned to status quo. It’s grey, in a grey covered grey with grey filling kind of way. It’s like living in a black and white movie without all the romance and forgiving lighting. There is nothing gentle about March in Indiana; only the strong survive. It’s not uncommon to open the Obits section and read about people dying from Marchoma. Marchitis. The canca’ that is March.
Almost every day we’ve had either rain, snow, or fog. Or all 3. Mostly all 3. The snowsuits are still in full, albeit muddy, rotation. Coats and mittens at 9 am are traded for rain boots and old sweatshirts by 4 pm. Everything is destroyed by icy mud by nightfall. So I was happy to see Sara decorate her “we’ve still got snow in March” snowman with a large Indy 500 Princess Sash. In 8 short weeks, we’ll be baking on 80 degree bleachers, watching the parade. Unless it’s 2002, when it snowed the weekend of the race. Oh God…no. Let’s forget I mentioned 2002, and focus on the fact that my child in envisioning her days as a 500 Princess. It’s coming my dear. Just like the sunshine, it will come.
