I’ll take “Hodge Podge Birthdays” for $200 Alex

As I took down the final Candyland balloon, Sara decisively announced that rather than a Mickey Mouse birthday party, she’d prefer a Max and Ruby party.  In case you didn’t major in “Ambiguous Cartoon Characters”, Sara is loyal to one cartoon (at this time) only: Max and Ruby.  A very innocuous storyline about a big sister and little brother (rabbits) with a 1920′s soundtrack.  It’s actually quite adorable.

She was clear in her wishes: she wanted a Ruby-style tea party complete with silver stars, buttercream roses, sugar hearts, and raspberry fluff icing.  To the final fluff, those are indeed the ingredients of Ruby’s tea parties (along with a tiara Ruby likes to wear on her birthday).  A theme-based challenge, at the very least.

We did a dress rehearsal on the beach on her actual birthday.  The cupcakes were hilariously perfect, right down to Sara biting the head off of Max.

Last Saturday we pulled off the tea party on our back porch, which I kept very small, again, per Sara’s request.  I was tickled to my toes with the silver stars scattered on the table (Sara found them on clearance at JoAnn Fabrics) and the silver stars hanging from the ceiling.  I was more thrilled with the centerpieces Jenny helped me make from Max and Ruby coloring pages.  I found them online for $50, and made them for nothing.  And by nothing, I mean not a dime.  I had all the materials for a change!

Sara enjoyed pouring tea for her guests into their “tea cups” (OR sippy cups with funky straws).  I found a tea pot for $2 (my hats off to Old Time Pottery).  I needed it to be dirt cheap so I wouldn’t care if she broke it!

We let the kids run off their cupcake highs with some egg-racing.  At my parties, everybody plays, everybody wins!  For all the gluing and thumb-tacking I’ve done lately, I have to say, I truly loved this party.  But what matters to me is that Sara loved it more.

We had such a bless at the party!
We felt pretty special to be at the table having tea with Sara and Kelly, too!
As you can see from the picture, Noah felt like a true price! :-)
    Love you!!!

Yes, I meant to say blast…if I only fool-proofed my messages BEFORE I hit submit…oh, well, I guess it makes them more authentic! :-)
