It was a pretty chill holiday weekend, considering we live in Race Town USA. Sara and her cousin, Avery, have a very strong aversion to anything “youd” or “woud”, so I don’t think we’ll be taking them to the track anytime soon.
We enjoyed a very nice visit with my Uncle Rex. He likes to refer to Avery and Sara as Jenny and Lori, Part II. A common expression in our family, considering Jenny and I are 12 months apart and Sara and Avery are 11 months apart. I wish I had digital pictures of Rex holding us when we were this age. He hasn’t aged a bit!
If you are not familiar with these expressions of mixed glee/concentration/hypomanic joy about to explode in song, let me give you an education. These are the expressions of children watching Elmo:
I won’t horrify you with expressions of adults watching Elmo. It’s not a pretty sight. The exuberant Elmo watching was followed with pizza, ice cream, and a trip to the Disney Store. I’d say Sara and Avery enjoyed their time together.
Sara did manage to catch a rare cold. She’s spent the last two days bravely taking Robitussin and chanting, “Sara Sick”. After a lengthy 20 minute nap, she gave me the following list of demands: Hat-Blankie-Paci-Babies Book-Mommy Up Rocky. Translation: give me that ridiculous hat Grandma Sally made Avery wear in a Gone With the Wind portrait last year (because no matter how many times you whine, “Moooom”, anything Grandma does is totally cool and better than any hat you may have purchased), hand me my blankie and paci, along with the book that’s supposed to teach me my ABCs via the expressions of babies, and get out of that rocking chair so I can sit there on my own. And here she rocked herself, reading her book:

And now she’s hopefully in a benadryl-style coma, sleeping off her cold. We ordered her “Big Girl” furniture today. I can only imagine the adventures we’ll face transitioning her into a twin bed. Let me make a list of things I’d rather do: (1) pull out my eyelashes one by one (2) watch the same Elmo video for 24 hours straight…
