Come and Join our Rookie Band

Tomorrow is D-Day, as in “Delivery Day”. Laid-back, I am in no hurry to get life started Kelly Wallen has been given her eviction notice. I’m telling you, this child is different from Sara.
Sara, who tried to kick her way out from conception, heartburn from hell, 65 lbs of weight gain…arriving after 24 hours of labor and 10 days early. Kelly, no heartburn, no kicking, gently rolling whenever it’s convenient, 35 lbs of weight gain….arriving when we finally PULL her out. What’s funny is that I think I’ll feel the same way about both of them.

What’s good to know, is that I’m STILL a Rookie. BUT, I’m catching myself sooner! Yesterday Sara begged me to put in Monsters, Inc. A movie she has never seen, but as she was “cleaning” out the DVD drawer, she saw the cartoonish cover, and just had to watch the movie. 1000 weeks pregnant, with a head cold, I was in no mood to argue, so in it goes. Just as the movie starts, I realize I’ve put in Monsters, Inc.! Hello! A movie about children being scared by Monsters jumping out of their closets at night! After 14 solid nights of twin bed transition time…a twin bed that FACES her closet?!!! Have I lost my mind?! Watching someone of my size jump for a remote control that quickly is not a pretty sight, but I managed to hit stop one second before the first monster appeared.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I shrug my shoulders, look at Sara and say, “Hmm…must be broken”. To which Sara replies, “Lil Peeps”. As in, “whatever Mom…put in my Fisher Price Little People DVD instead. No biggie”.

So goes my last post before I become the mother of TWO daughters. Two. I keep telling myself that my Mother raised two daughters and she is still alive. But who am I kidding? I know we drove her to the brink of insanity! She keeps swearing we were easy children, which gives me hope. Either you only remember the good times or having two daughters actually gives you amnesia. Just watch my Mom try to call any of us by name. She has two daughters, two step daughters, and now three granddaughters. She calls us all “Missy”, even though none of us are named Missy. You have to give her credit for the days she actually tries. On those days my name is: Jenny-Kristie-Erin-Avery-Sara…LORI!!!

So say a prayer for Miss Kelly. She has no idea what she’s getting herself into….
