I want to post all kinds of funny stories and anecdotes about my baby girl, but I just haven’t had it in me this week. We’re on Night #10 of the twin bed transition, which may forever become known as “Sara Gate”. Or maybe “Sara Storm”. Anything that would denote war and loss. Loss of sleep. Loss of patience. In the midst of this transition, Sara seems to have also caught a wicked case of the terrible two’s. She threw a tantrum so intense last week that I called my BF in Florida (my go-to guru for all Mommy advice):
Lori (holding out the phone): MY GOD, WHAT IS SHE DOING AMIE?!
Amie: Dear Lord, does she have a fever?
Lori: I tried to force a nap upon her.
Amie: In that case, put her in a time out until she can calm down and call me back in 15 minutes. She has turned two on you.
But I think my sister finally figured out the real conundrum. Sara isn’t unhappy about her bed or all the “Kelly things” lying around the house. She’s excited. Aunt Jenny surmised that Sara is afraid to fall asleep and miss something. Point proven when Grandma walked in the door tonight. We’ve told Sara many stories about Grandma coming to stay with her when Daddy and Mommy go to pick up Kelly. After Grandma’s arrival, I found Sara sitting in the baby’s bathtub, in the dark. When I told her Kelly wasn’t coming today, she pointed right to Grandma, as if to say, “Um yeah! The prophet has arrived and I’m ready to give this baby a bath!”.
I stopped praying for patience two nights ago, and started praying for stamina. And honestly, no judgments on any family’s sleeping methods, but letting Sara play herself to sleep is like letting her choose what she’ll eat for dinner. It would be chocolate cookies and a 3 am bedtime every night if we let this bantam rule our roost.
Am I losing this battle of wills? Hell yes. But just this round folks. Just this round.
I’ve called in back up. Grandma is upstairs right now, STILL trying to get her to sleep! Go for it Grandma! …(sucker)
We’ve got it all wrong anyway. Sara prefers to sleep standing straight up in the kitchen.
