Kind of a grossy gross week here on the home front. First, Sara taught me the lesson of NEVER turning your back on a 2 year old. As I am exhausted from saying, “just for looking, not for touching”, she must be equally tired of educating the Momma. Done begging her to come upstairs so I could shower, I decided that she was safe in front of her Mickey Mouse Show. After all, this house is so baby-proofed it’s like living in a big padded cell. It’s necessary as Sara often trips on air.
Mommy: “Fine Sara, you can stay downstairs. Are you OK?”
Sara: “Yuuh Mommy! I stay downstuuurs.” Looking totally innocent and absorbed in her Mouskatools.
When I was out of sight, she made an immediate beeline for my purse, dug out a pen and turned our CREAM leather couch into her canvas. When I came downstairs to check on her (probably less than 5 minutes later), the couch was covered in pen, Sara was stripped down to her diaper, and was breastfeeding Elmo. No, I’m not joking. Greg had the camera at work, or I would have memorexed that moment for her prom date.
Last night Greg picked Sara up from daycare. She was a bit clingy, and he kept asking her if something was wrong. Apparently, just as he got her to admit her tummy hurt, she projectiled all over his car. That brings Sara’s lifetime puking total to 2. That’s it. Including her infant days. She may have screamed like a banshee 24 hours a day, but she never puked. She came running into the house,
Sara: “Mommy, I made a MESS! I PUKED!” Laughing uncotrollably. “I GROSS!”
Kelly got her shots yesterday and Greg and I still have sore throats and laryngitis. So needless to say, we’re still in our pj’s this morning. Kelly is asleep, and I couldn’t even engage Sara in making banana nut bread. So I put in her favorite “Children’s Songs” video (so cheap and cheesy, and she LOVES it…because after spending my retirement on Baby Einstein videos I give up. She HATES Baby Einstein. With a passion that includes screaming and climbing up my leg. Someone should study her). She’s perfectly happy watching her songs and carrying around a birthday candle shaped in the Number 9. She has pretend blown out her “tindle” about 1000 times. Because clouds sometimes have a silver lining, she sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for the first time. As I slid the bread in the oven, I heard:
“Tinkley Tinkley Little Stuur
How I under ardee are
Yeah Star! ”
Now THAT makes my week. Under ardee are. Yep Sara. Sometimes I wonder what you are. My kid, that’s for sure. Gotta run, she’s begging to have flower sprinkles for a snack. And to watch her Little People video, which now calls the Pee Pee vid-oh. And you know what? Sure. Today I’m going to be THAT Mom. Who gives her kid sprinkles and turns on the videos. Oh sue me.
