It can be said that you lose perspective when you’ve lived with your family for many years. You don’t really have a gauge on “average”, because you only know what is average within you own home. You come to assume that everyone is doing pretty much the same stuff. And maybe they are, I don’t really know. When I ask other Mothers of toddlers if their children beg to taste pepper and play with large pieces of foam for hours on end, they give me strange looks.
So here is Friday morning: Sara pulled a large ribbon off my sundress and used it to do some streamer dancing. She then put Shrek band-aids on her pretend boo boos. Apparently the injuries occurred on the OUTSIDE of her clothes.
She then dressed herself entirely for the first time. Good first try. While you can see how it went with the tshirt, it should be noted that the entire outfit is on backwards. Why do kids always dress themselves backwards when they are learning this skill? I’ve always wondered….
She was very pleased with herself. “I DO IT MYSELF MOMMY! I DRESS MYSELF!”. Of course I was just thrilled at the correct use of pronouns. My do it myself is slowly evolving into I do it myself. Now if we can just transform “I am helping me”, into “I am helping YOU”, we will have made enormous strides in the Pronoun Battle of 2007.

Forget Sycamore – she’s ready for Princeton and is probably dressed better than some there already!
