I’d love to say that for Sara’s first trick or treating experience, she had ANY clue as to what was going on. She was neither interested in the candy, the cool pumpkin bag, or even the rainbow pumpkin light saber (What? You’ve never heard of the tradition of the rainbow pumpkin light saber?). She was excited about dressing up as a doctor and saying Twick or Tweet. She was exceptionally excited about the “new vid-oh of the Gweat Pum-kin Charl Brown”.
Luckily our mall has trick or treating, and we could easily load up the kiddies in strollers, roll between a few stores and call it a night. But here’s the debate: When I got her dressed, I realized I had not only dressed her as a doctor, but as Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy. Look at her! Greg disagrees. He thinks she looks more like Katherine Heigl. We don’t actually watch the show, so what do you think?
I asked Keri and Ana Paula to dress the boys as Patrick Dempsey to go as Sara’s arm candy. Apparently the boys had other plans. I guess a pirate and a monkey are more age appropriate.
Kelly was an angel. Well, in spirit. She wasn’t actually interested in wearing the costume. And I wasn’t about to turn my angel into a devil by forcing her to wear it.
I think Oliver had a hard time figuring out A) how did he get into a gigantic pumpkin jumper, and B) why was this baby screaming so loudly next to him. He was a trooper the entire night.

WE ARE IN A HUGE FIGHT.
you guys are so cute and your posts so funny and insightful and kirk and i are still not even used to the fact that you guys are actually parents and now you have TWO perfect and beautiful little people running around!
HOWEVER… in a year overseas with all our stuff in storage, i had become very used to the idea of easy online access to all of lori’s awesome recipes — yes the same lori that inspired me that cooking was not actually the time and money wasting mess that resulted in cabinets full of obscure and useless ingredients, bits of food on every exposed surface of the kitchen, the smoke detector going off, and a call to papa vitos pizza on A1A at the end of the evening anyway, that i had come to believe it was.
so… across the continents while eating schnitzel in germany, pasta in italy, all sorts of grilled mystery meat in turkey, pad thai in thailand, satay in malaysia, and bad chinese food just about everywhere… all i really wanted was to come home and cook some of lori’s jambalaya. so our first morning back i visited your site to retrieve the instructions for making the perfect rice, shrimp, veggie and – most importantly – spicy sausage combo, and to my dismay… no recipes. sadly, we had to make lasagna off of the back-of-the-box recipe instead. so… i’m begging you — when you are finished playing games, changing diapers, cleaning messes, remodeling the house, and tucking the little people in… (ok, i’m thinking you may never actually be finished with that list…) please — put the cookbook back on line!
do it for the people. do it for the ninjas.
(or maybe just tell me which link to follow since my searching after 14 time zones, 36 hours of travel, and 5 hours of sleep might not have been entirely thorough…)
And our Partners in Crime Return! I knew living in that one room hut in Laos along with 3 generations of a local family would get old. Some day you’d return to break bread at our table and tell us the unreal tales of Team Morris, the true Cape Canaveral PIckle Barrel Ninjas. You two have been sorely missed.
I have no idea what happened to the cookbook, but we’ve had technical hurdles with the new lay-out. I’ll call our COO of IT here at the Team and get it back on line. In the meantime, no one earth should have to go without my jambalaya. No one, I say.
1/4 cup ground bacon
1 tsp garlic
1 tsp chopped jalapeno
I cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup tomato, diced
1 cup smoked sausage, diced
1 lb shrimp
1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp curry
1 tsp oregano
1/2 cup chicken broth
3 cups cooked rice (I use brown)
1/2 cup shredded cheese
Cook bacon until rendered. Add garlic and jalapeno, stir. Add onion and pepper and cook 2-3 minutes. Add sausage and shrimp. Cook until shrimp is pink, about 5 minutes. Add oregano, curry, cumin, stir. Stir in chicken broth. Heat through. Add tomato and rice, heat through. Cover with cheese and let it melt a bit. YUMMY! One of my all-time favorites as well. I know you’ve been traveling “a bit”, but you had better high-tail it to the Midwest soon!
To all our regular readers out there, the part of the story you probably don’t know is our dear friends ‘team morris’ are both real, live, rocket-scientists. Yup, that’s what they do: design, build, and launch rockets. But please excuse them for not reading the links in the top right corner of the home page. Especially the one very cryptically labeled “Lori’s Cookbook.”
All the vacationing has made you both soft. I’m calling Crazy Sue and having you both put on disaster-preparedness duty immediately until your ‘A’ game comes back.
Welcome home Kirk and Laura. I know Greg and Lori are anxious to get their hands on you. While you’re trying to find the recipe, I’m just letting my pot of jambalaya simmer. ahh..great minds.
Dr. Sara was a sure thing. I hear they’re casting her for a new episode on “Greys” to see who can break McDreamy’s heart again.
