Typical Dinner Conversation: A Stream of Consciousness

Maybe this conversation isn’t funny at all, but I think we’re kind of funny. Tonight at dinner:

L: So you know those crayons I’ve been trying to find? I found them at the bottom of my purse!

G: The bottom of your purse? You’ve hunted through every bag you own, and they were in the bag you carry on your back every single day?

L: At the BOTTOM. Under the diaper bag and burp cloth and box of Dora snacks. I had no hope of seeing them.

G: Seeing them. In your purse. The thing you open every day.

L: It’s kind of like when you hid my underwear.

G: Oh you mean the time I put your folded underwear in the underwear drawer?

L: YES, but you put them all the way in the BACK. Where I would never find them.

G: Right. Because you’d never think to find your underwear in your underwear drawer.

L: OH MY GOD. EVERY WOMAN IN AMERICA KNOWS WHAT I’M SAYING.

G: Speaking of women, I met one today and she smelled like chew.

L: Chew? As in dip, chew? That can’t be possible. Women don’t chew. Maybe she had some strong coffee.

G: I think I know what chew smells like.

L: Greg, I grew up in the Midwest, dating Midwest boys. I’ve inadvertently kissed chew.

G: I’ve kissed a woman who chewed.

L: WHAT?! Did you meet her at the State Fair?!

G: As a matter of fact I did. I met her at a Colorado County Fair.

L: Did you date a Carnie?!

G: Can we change the subject?

L: Today I met the type of woman who walks into a PTA meeting and immediately demands that all juice be banned from the school. As if banning juice is a reasonable request.

G: Oh that’s horrible. Why would we ban the Jews? We like the Jews.

  1. Wow, look at you two, just 4 short years ago you had no idea your dinner conversation would be about diaper bags, burp cloths, and what daughter number 1 did at daycare today and how well daughter #2 slept last night. SUCKERS ha ha. It will just keep getting better and better, Soon your conversation will be about the budget issues and the PTA, and school projects. And then they hit pre teen years, and all of a sudden you become very very dumb. Then about 22-23 you become smart again. Love Grandma

  2. Wow I forgot how the 2 of you looked that day. Then the girls took over!

Lori – where did Papa Johns and Oliver go?

You still give me hope for perfection.

    Love you

  3. Perfect? Have you lost your mind? I haven’t slept in 2.5 years. I sweep my kitchen floor with a shovel these days. The Papa Johns in on my hips and the Oliver is in my glass honey. Come over and join me! I may be tired, but I’m choosin’ happy!

You are an amazing friend and I’ll never deserve you, Lori

  4. You two are perfect. Remember that all the imperfect days in the future will be viewed as perfect. It is those days that you will always look back on and cherish. You would have never wanted it any other way. It builds character. Well, at least it is parent (job) security. Someone has to be there for every moment,,,,it might as well be you!
I only wish I could witness your fun first hand!
    Love,
    Ange
