I know, where is my classic positivity? It may require a formal search party. The croup turned into something devilish and feverish, and something that includes unending, spasmodic coughing. At day #5 of 102 degree fevers, I’ve run out of Robitussin, vinegar to clean the humidifier, and second winds.

Sara, Sydney, Rabbit, Kelly Bear, a box of Wheat Thins, Doctor Pillow, Pooh Blankie, and a ribbon take a rest by the window
The good news: Sara does not have pneumonia. We spent the morning at Riley Children’s Hospital affirming she has fantastic lungs. And let me just say a word about that place: Riley may very well be the most amazing hospital on earth. It’s a common misperception around these parts that Riley is only for kids with serious illnesses; but actually, it’s designed for kids, any kid with any illness. It took us all of 20 seconds to check into radiology, and we didn’t wait long enough for Sara to touch all the bright toys or even fully examine the fish tank. They must have a staff member just assigned to all the fish tanks! The staff is always smiling and warm and welcoming. Sara thought she was on an adventure designed just for her. When they took her “chest picture” she actually smiled and said, “CHEESE!” The adventure ended with her getting to choose a surprise; and not some sticker surprise…like an actual full bead necklace making kit. When we got back in the car she announced, “I’m all better now”. Uh-huh, I wish. A trip to Riley always reminds me just how lucky we are. The kid in front of her clearly had cancer. The kid behind her was a 4 year old girl who could not speak. All around us were specially fitted wheelchairs and wagons with hooks for IVs and G-tube bags. I mean my God. Sara has the flu. And a WICKED case of cabin fever. Not exactly a recipe for real drama.
That being said, I’ve had 11 hours of sleep since Sunday morning. I passed slap happy about 36 hours ago, and I’m into a destitute-planning-for-Armageddon phase. Today Sara has eaten 3 fries and one scoop of ice cream. I’ve had a cinnamon roll and a half a cup of coffee. Greg is on his way home with symptoms of the flu. We’re going down people. This house is GOING DOWN. 2008 has NOT BEEN WHAT I PLANNED AS I DRANK MY POMENGRANATE BEER AND ATE MY PORK RINDS ON NEW YEAR’S EVE!!!

Oh you guys! May I say that I understand?! There is not much more that can be said than that. Lori- I agree with you about Riley. I am so sad to have passed through those halls in my mind too often for Mister Bryce, but so thankful it is so close when we need that place. I wish you guys much calm and sleep. Please, Please let me help in any way that I can.
Sara, Bryce is sad that you are not feeling well. He got his Pooh Bear Ice out of the freezer tonight and asked to bring it to you. In Bryce’s World, Pooh Bear can fix anything.
Best Wishes-
Keri and Bryce
I am sorry that everyone has been so sick. I am glad that you can always find the time to document these memorable yet forgetable memories. I promise you that this will pass.
I hope you are blessed in that this may be the worst stent of health issues that your family encounters.
Please let me know if there is anything I can help with.
Take care!!
