Greg and I have had an agreement since we said “I Do” that we’d never mention the “D” word: not even as a joke. But after a particularly difficult negotiation regarding working gym schedules back into our lives, I think we can be forgiven for the following conversation. Anyone married with kids knows that working through the scarce commodity of “time” is painful. Painful in a “Tom Cruise tonight on 60 Minutes” kind of way.
As we were walking through the mall Saturday night (a highlight of our social life):
Lori: Look at those teenagers by the gumball machine. I think they are breaking up. That’s so drama. Look at their faces.
Greg: Oh yeah, they’re breaking up. Check it out…her best friend is standing guard.
Lori: OMG, if we were 17, we’d SO be breaking up right now.
Greg: We’d SO let’s just be friends right now!
Lori: Like, I like you. But I don’t like you, like you.
Greg: Maybe we should see other people.
Lori: OK, that’s enough…
P.S. I just have to say these words: on my last post, Laura, who is a rocket scientist, called me a ninja. We never say Kirk or Laura’s names without finishing with, “and they are rocket scientists”, because a) they are, and b) it’s just so ultra-cool to know them let alone, call them our dear friends. For a President of the Physics Club, 1989, who named our Club’s bike team “The Tachyons”…well, any science geek could tell you, being called a Ninja by Laura is so exciting, I simply cannot fall asleep. Kirk and Laura are unbelievable ninjas who traveled the world for 6 months. When I say “traveled the world”, I mean they like went to Cambodia and hired a local to hike them days into the outback to sleep on the floor of a hut with 3 generations of a family. You know, to get the “local flavor”. Or was it Sri Lanka? When I want a local flavor, I find a McDonald’s to see if it’s “themed”. The Cape Canaveral McDonald’s has a rocket ship out front! Did you KNOW that? My husband is a total ninja. He has the tshirt and everything. For any of the original Pickle Barrel/Lunch Special #7’s Ninjas to call me ninja…I’m overwhelmed.
