There are two kinds of toys: (1) Plastic crap that breaks and requires thousands of batteries, and (2) European sticks of shiny wood without color or implied purpose that double as coffee table art. Today, I found the mecca of the middle ground: Mass Ave Toys: A toy store on Massachusetts Avenue here in Indianapolis. Their website isn’t up yet, but don’t bother surfing…just go there. It’s akin to walking into “The Shop Around the Corner” in “You’ve Got Mail”, only with toys. Functional, fun, beautiful, sturdy, non-battery requiring…toys. Tons of them. We could have played there all day with those toys stacked to the ceiling. I felt like I was in an amazing toy dream. I’ve never SEEN these toys, yet they are everything I wish a toy would be! Oh heavenly toy store, thank you for entering into our lives. Don’t you just want to slurp sweet childhood up with a spoon?
