Scope Creep

In Project Management, we often use the term “Scope Creep”.  It means a once well-defined project has grown beyond it’s original plan.  The scope of the project has creeped…outwards.  Now that I’m the Director of Operations here at home, Scope Creep is a disease from which I suffer DAILY.  And when it comes to Lori and Crafting, it’s malignant.

These blankets: I can explain.  Sara saw the “I Love Mommy I Love Daddy” fleece remnant in the clearance aisle at the fabric store.  For 3 bucks, I said she could have it.  But when we unrolled it, it was an odd, very long rectangle.  To cut it in half to make two blankets would have made very small blankets.  So I got the great idea to add fleece to the edges and make a knot blanket, thereby effectively turning a “No Sew” blanket project into a “Sew” blanket.  I can hear my high school chemistry professor in my head right now, “Lori, don’t make it hard.  You make everything so hard.”

I won’t bore you with the 3.5 hours it took me to make these simple things.  The blankets are still too small, and I now have several horribly profane names for the sewing machine I’m borrowing from my sister.  Sara seemed happier playing with the yards of fleece I bought to add to the $3 project, which is now…more than $3.  BUT, the girls have coordinating blankets!  Made by my hands!  Things I swore I’d do if I stayed at home.  BY GOD, IT SHALL BE DONE!
