Friday night was the end of my favorite Pfaltzgraff Red and Black Speckled Pancake Bowl. I mourned until I found its replacement in the clearance section of the Pfaltzgraff website tonight. OH HAPPY DAY!!
My sister’s sister-in-law (because in Indiana, we’re all related) tagged me via her website, The Things We Do (an awesome lay-out that I visually covet). Stephanie’s tag was a request to list 7 quirks. I tried to tell her that she is cute and quirky and I’m just weird (quoting “Runaway Bride”), but here goes:
1. Some women love shoes, I love bowls. Nesting bowls, pancake bowls…I just love bowls. They are the essence of the kitchen, along with a killer set of knives.
2. I monogram everything. It’s outdated, like circa 1982. It’s Southern and I’m decidedly Midwestern. But I don’t care. The second I buy a bag, my first thought is where the hell can I slap an embroidered initial. Make It Personal, all 40 square feet of this shop, is my favorite purse store on earth.
3. I’m deathly afraid of most dogs. 99.9% of dogs. Two exceptions: One: my cousin Brian’s dogs never scare me. He’d never tolerate a poorly trained dog. Two: My BF Amie’s dogs, always pomeranians. RIP Mr. Boojangles!
4. Despite #3, I wildly love watching dog shows on TV. Those licky-licky people-eaters cannot jump through the screen.
5. I name my cars. The Blue Banana, Eddie, Big Al, The Grey Lady, and I am currently driving The Chicken Box.
6. I have HORRIBLE taste in names. Greg named the girls. I would have named them Anastasia and Lucienne. Annie and Lucy. As it is, Mom and I call them Lucy (Sara) and Bea (Kelly). I named my favorite childhood doll Arietty. Yep…it crossed my mind too. Greg shot that down faster than he shot down Maisy.
7. I’m allergic to chocolate. Always have been. I used to be able to tolerate milk chocolate, when only fudge made me ill. Over time it has worsened and even the smell of chocolate makes me queasy. I think the taste is unbelievably delicious and I have a recurring dream of my sister asking me to hold a very large chocolate cake covered in dark fudgey icing that I quickly devour like a pig. Seriously, no utensils. I wake up with a headache, but mmmm….it’s worth it.

You must have left the weird ones off the list. 🙂 I haven’t had the heart to name another vehicle since Betsy died (the mini truck I drove in college). And I think our dog would probably give you a heart attack if you met her in person! (She is definitely a licker but not scary at all!)
Ahh, the great debate of quirky versus weird. Coming from a girl who as a grown responsible adult still dies her hair varying shades of purple, I’d say you fall into the quirky category. There’s a special place for us weirdos who refuse to quit wearing heels after we have babies and have such a structured eating schedule (for myself, not the baby) that close friends will look at their watches and say, “isn’t it time for you to eat Amie?” Now that’s some serious weird.
I’m dying to see these ponchos and hear the stories from the weekend. Bless Greg for helping with the cooking! I find it hard to believe that Greg cooking could pass for Lori cooking though. I don’t know, maybe he has secret culinary skills that I’ve not yet experienced.
I scored some free tickets to Holiday Mart. Would you be interested in going with me Thursday or Friday?
I promise I was strictly labor on the cooking task. Success was only realized because of the watchful eye of management.
My named cars include:
1. The bass-mobile (that’s bass as in low tones, not the fish) – a 1986 Chevy Cavalier sedan
2. Chef (of South Park fame) a 1984 BMW (don’t say wow, I paid $1,500 for it)
3. Nitty (my wife’s first car) a 1997 Dodge Neon
4. Pilates – (current car) 2003 Honda Pilot
Enjoy.
