While I’m technically on a long, long, long leave from my company, I am fairly certain I am still constrained by a certain policy that prohibits the public posting of opinions related to our industry. A policy I have followed despite reading absolute LIES in nationally read papers about the work we do. Stories I knew were lies because I WAS THERE IN THE ROOM, and certain media outlets must have just MADE STUFF UP. Opinions I have kept to myself because we have more important things to do with our time than swat away one-sided conspiracy theorists. But tonight I watched an episode of CSI and while I’ve been angrier, I’ve never been more shocked at how far a network will go to exploit the cause of the misinformed. SO FINE. I submitted the following complaint to CBS. I never mentioned my specific job, work, or company. It was not posted on a public forum, blog, discussion, etc. It’s out of character for me to even brush policy, but they don’t call me platinum balls for nothin’.
My complaint:
I just watched an episode in which a drug company continues to medicate an unwilling minor with life-threatening investigational medicines after his custodial parent is murdered. I was actually sickened. I have been a researcher of investigational medicines for sick children for years and am horrified at the entertainment industry’s portrayal of the pharmaceutical industry. The thought that thousands of doctors, nurses and pharmacists would harm children is reprehensible. I am saddened that we have dedicated our lives to saving children only to be vilified by artists looking for a cause and the media looking to make a buck. I pray your children never need life-saving medicine because your work has only served to harm the noble pursuits of much better men.

Good for you! I love the last sentence of the letter – it’s very powerful and absolutely true!

Good for YOU! It’s always great to hear when people stick up for what they believe.
