The Upside of Daughters

The upside of daughters?  You mean besides the skirts, fantastic tights (WAIT until you see the new pair of mismatchy tights from Grandmommy), ponytails, princess dresses, play makeup, dolls….I KNOW! Having girls is so TOTALLY FUN. But besides all that, you might get a girl whose favorite color is PINK.  As in PINK!!! My favorite color is purple, but PINK! is a darn close second.

Sara’s room is “Romance Pink” which never translates well into photos (too soft in normal light, too harsh when enhanced); I was able to add a few things to her room this fall.  Finally I found something other than those hideous nothing lights that come with a tract home.  Chandeliers are just too big for our ceiling height so I settled for a chandelier-wanna-be.  It sheds the most crazy broken light around the room.  At first I thought it was too disco, but then I realized it was a PRINCESS DISCO…I can live with that.

While looking for a “clean” bathroom at the Riley Days Festival, we ran across a small interior decorator store on a side street.  Sara was immediately attached to tiny birdhouses on a clearance table.  Perfect!  I’ve been looking forever and a day for something to hang in between the girls’ cross-stitches without taking away from them.  Once Daddy made a few shelves, I was able to do it all for $20.

Now, if I could just get Kelly to safely stay in a twin, I could move her in with Sara and finally have the MAGICAL playroom I envision.  But alas, gymnast Kelly sees those safety rails and her eyes light up like a little Olympian. ” Just how FAST AND FURIOUSLY CAN I, THE AMAZING KELLY LOU RETTON, FLY OVER THESE BARS AND LAND SPLAT ON THE FLOOR BELOW?!  I don’t know, but I’ll keep trying until I have the best time in the neighborhood.”
