Diversity

These pictures are for Grandaddy.  Here are the girls eating their first cupcakes.  They’ve not tried Ding Dongs yet, but I’m sure they’ll love them equally.

When Greg and I decided to raise our family in Indiana, we listed “lack of diversity” in the Con column.  Our next highest choice was Northern California where “diversity” was a Pro, but “abject mortgage-based poverty” was a CON.  We naively thought that by living here, we could afford to travel to expose the girls to diversity.  Little did we know we’d give birth to the two most non-traveling, pajama-wearing, homebody daughters on earth.  Just as our curly hair genes canceled each other out, so did our wanderlust.

Not too worry, after Sara told me about the Opera she attended at school today (she can’t remember the name, but she told me it involved scary LIZARDS….anyone know of an Opera about lizards?), we had this conversation:

Mommy: It’s Kelly’s turn to pick the video for the commute Sara.

Kelly (loudly in the back seat): BEAR-DAY, BEAR-DAY.

Mommy: Bear-day?  Do we have any videos about bears?

Sara: I don’t think so.  Maybe she’s saying Barney.

Kelly (even louder): NOOOOO.  BEAR-DAY.

Sara: Maybe she’s saying VERDE.

Mommy: What’s verde?

Sara: It’s green in Spanish.

Mommy: Sara, Kelly doesn’t speak Spanish.

Sara (confidently): It’s otay Mommy, I speak Spanish.  Now, do we hab any bideos (videos) that are GREEN?

In other news: Jack is taking it day by day.  He seems to be having great days followed by questionable days.  If only our cat would speak Spanish, apparently Sara would be able to translate.  Thank You oh-so-irritating Dora.  But I guess Elmo took a turn for the worse.  I found him like this as I was cleaning up toys tonight.  I grabbed the camera, because no one would believe me if I didn’t memorex it.  I’m sure when Alan and Amie gave us the Zolo garden (such an awesome toy…you know where to get it…)…they never imagined that the girls would bury Elmo IN IT.

One response to “Diversity”

  1. Hi long lost friend! I’m sad to see that poor Elmo has taken a dirt nap, but happy to know that the play set has found regular and creative use. We must get together soon! Now that I know what it’s like to be a working Mom, we must get together and compare notes. Maybe a dinner night? Big hugs to the girls!
