Splint is off! Yes. I see SLEEP in my future. The poor child wasn’t in pain, but so uncomfortable at night. Motrin, pillows, massages…nothing helped. We’ve been awake…oh Lord, forever. Sara is now in a coma in her “real” pajamas, and happy to be moving again. The time had come anyway: her cast was the neatest thing at school (apparently a few homes of her classmates have run out of toilet paper as her friends have rushed home to make their own casts), BUT today in gym class, a friend fell and hurt his lip AND tooth. Consider the injury spotlight moved. Sara’s back in full force…here are some Sara stories:
I introduced a game of “Endless Story” from The Creative Family. Sara has been telling her own endless stories over dinner, so I added the one minute egg timer, allowing us all to add to each others tall tales. At Sara’s first go around:
Sara: There once was a blue Princess who was held captive by a mean witch in a castle!
Mommy (after a few moments): OK Sara, keep going, you have a whole minute.
Sara: I’m done. My endwess (endless) story is only 2 pages.

I received an email from school to send Sara in old clothes on Friday. The entire Early Childhood wing has been studying Michelangelo in Art Appreciation.
Mommy: Sara, aren’t you excited?! Friday you get to paint the Sistine Chapel!
Sara (very 13 year old sarcastic): NO MOMMY. I’m painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Mommy: Well EXXCUUUSE ME. I went to public preschool.

Tonight during chit-chat (as a preface, Sara has been learning that Da Vinci really studied something before he drew it, and Sara has been practicing that at school…I think her object of choice is a canoe…getting LOTS of canoe drawings):
Mommy: Sara, I was thinking of something new we could do together.
Sara: WHAT?!
Mommy: You’ve been studying Da Vinci and Michelangelo at school, and I was thinking we could get matching sketch books and take them to the Art Museum near your school. Maybe we could find a work of art we really like, and we could use our colored pencils to sketch either the art, or maybe how the art makes us feel.
Sara: Oh. I was thinking we could go to Wal-Mart and buy marshmellows. What is sketch?

I love kid bit stories. I get a good laugh anytime I read conversations like these. I guess that is why that show “Kids say the darndest things” was such a hit. 🙂
I love these little stories – so funny!
