Not deterred by last week’s dismal dinner failure, I tried Monday Night Supper Club again. Kelly is improving little by little every day, and tonight we went big: we tried French Steak on mashed potatoes with broccoli. She barely touched her dinner, so she’s digesting it perfectly. Sara is now FREAKED OUT by candles. Last week she decided to wave her paper towel over our candle centerpiece and my resulting heart attack has officially scared her away from fire forever.
Sara suggested we put something pretty, in a bowl, in the center of the table. What a great idea! Now what on EARTH would we have lying around the house that is of bright colors and should be stored in a bowl? THINK BRAIN, THINK. Something that includes pounds and pounds of brightly colored wrappers that I spent hours pulling out of Kelly’s mouth (so desperate for anything other than chicken and veggies, she kept sneaking miniature Reese’s Cups into her mouth with the wrapper still on….poor thing). Don’t feel too bad for the Kel-belle. That girl is a walking gummy bear by now.
I don’t think meat and gravy with potatoes has ever tasted so good in my entire life. I snuck over to the fridge and threw back a little milk. How else was I going to wash down the gravy? Oh sweet lactose, I love you.
Then, because I can never gloat in success for long, I had a complete and total nervous breakdown at 8pm. Seriously. Total. Greg unmade a bed and I FLIPPED THE HELL OUT so RIDICULOUSLY OUTRAGEOUSLY, and HORMONALLY that I ended up eating donuts alone in my mini-van in the Wal-Mart parking lot for an hour, listening to 80’s sad songs. Oh yes. That bad. It’s official: keeping on top of the “juices” in this house has done me in. Apparently that one tidy bed was all that stood between me and complete insanity. I half expected to wake up this morning in a straight jacket in a padded room, but luckily I woke up to piles of laundry and girls who felt the need to greet the sunrise. Good morning reality, I’ll take a spoonful of Xanax in my coffee please, along with a couple of Advil. And a donut while you’re up…

Oh sweetheart, I fully take the blame for unmaking the guest bed. I should’ve know it was the linchpin in our marital bliss.
God love parking lots. They are the new spa experience for Recessionistas. I recently slept in a parking lot because I was so desperate for a few minutes sleep. When I need a moment of peace, you can find me in a parking lot. Occasionally I bring an outrageously overpriced Starbucks along with me. If I’m having a really bad day, I have a marshmallow bar – AKA Rice Krispie treat – with my coffee. Sadly, I have not rocked out to the 80’s ballads. I find NPR to be the right balance between soothing and non-committal.
Can I get in line for my donut? Can’t find a parking lot here so next best thing glass of wine and the back porch….
Keri
Can I join the parking lot gang somewhere?
If it is not a combination of toddler, husband, crazy dog…it is the job!!!! A parking lot sounds really good right now…really good…I will need the donut though, and the marshmallow bar, and the wine…and all the chocolate that is in my house at this moment… 🙁
Who wants to drive 3,5 hours with me to Peoria on Thursday?
Miss you girls!!!
I am right there with you!!! Is there a full moon somewhere that just will not go away? Things have just been crazy!
I have seen my days of parking lots.
Where is the sunshine and the warmth to make this better?
Oh, how nice to remember back to the parking lot days. That seems like light years ago. Either stress over husband, kids, or job. But Muncie has a beautiful parking lot by Minnetrista gardens with blooming trees, benches and flowers. I spent a few lunch hours there regrouping. Hang in there gang, it is all part of the child raising days. Love MOM
