I survived our first week of the Summer of Fun. I know some people think I have endless energy, but that’s just not true. Give me 4 kids under the age of 5, a head cold that turns into the flu, my husband’s birthday, and 2 Pilates classes, and it’s fair to say I’ve hit a bit of a wall. A large, brick, mortared, thick WALL.
Thank God Mom and Ray offered to take the girls tonight, because at 6 pm, I fell on the couch and ceased breathing.
We managed to squeeze in some good times, despite the bad weather and under the weather Momma. As promised, we made a mess with melted chocolate. I had the kids drip it with wooden spoons all over the island. When it dried, I scraped it up into little pieces. We next made chocolate cupcakes with white icing. The kids sprinkled the cupcakes with their homemade sprinkles, which they liked more than the cupcakes themselves.
The kids also painted Daddy a large Happy Birthday banner. There was only one snag to that plan: they can’t spell. However, they can paint, so our wishes were expressed via swirls.
We finished with a trip to The Children’s Museum where we had donuts with Daddy for National Donut Day. FINALLY. A holiday that isn’t a card holiday. Celebrate donuts…I can get behind that. Avery wanted to wear a rabbit mask and her tennis shoes with her twirly dress. Absolutely! And I can’t wait to take a picture of you walking into the Museum wearing the mask so I can text it to your Mommy immediately. She’s going to LOVE this.
Kelly went with a different look. It’s not her fault. She had on her Ariel Sunglasses (they are mandatory, along with those purple rubber boots), and she was more than disgruntled to learn that goggles were required in the dinosaur fossil dig.
So now with no kids, and a birthday to celebrate, I took Greg out for an outdoor dinner and shoe shopping for the girls. I’m sexy that way. You’d think we’d sleep in, but oh no. Tomorrow is the Annual Hatchette Book Sale. A warehouse of books and games on sale for ONE DOLLAR EACH. ONE. Now that’s a birthday gift in my budget!
Next week: 2nd attempt at the Sprinkler park, and we are painting with Q-tips. Seriously, it’s going to be fun. I promise.

One response to “Week 1: I Survived!”
I’ve never heard of and neither has my mother, which is shocking I know, of the Hatchette Book sale. Where is it? We might try to go to it when they have it again. Have fun.
