Not mine! No more babies for me, which frees me to enjoy OTHER people’s babies. Is it me, or is everyone having girls? Our friend Bethany just had a beautiful baby girl, followed by the announcement that her sister-in-law and our friend Kara, also having a girl. Followed by the announcement that my sister’s sister-in-law is adopting a girl. Followed by my best friend adopting a baby girl WHILE her sister was in labor…with a girl. If you think I’m knee deep in pink fabric…YOU’D BE SO VERY RIGHT.
I started the sewing with a poncho for a fabulous little girl turning 1. Miss Alexa had her party and we missed it! The late summer and early fall seem to be a confluence of dates and parties and vacations and back to school nights and first day backs and field trips….all just falling on top of each other. But I was very happy to sew this pattern I made for my girls last year. I like the lavender and I like the buttons, which were Auntie Amanda’s idea. There’s a lot of hand work involved in this pattern, and I loved relaxing on vacation, night after night, with family, a glass of wine, and this pretty little poncho. Sara and Kelly immediately begged for their own. Get in line, baby girls.
My best friend Amie asked if I would be up to a little seamstress job. Moi? Why…yes! She wanted some pink and brown burp cloths for her new niece. After 3 nephews and a son, that family is due for a little pink. And in 24 hours, not 1, but 2 baby girls arrived…one for Amie, and one for Amie’s sister. God has such a sense of humor. The brown shows up a bit darker in this picture, as they are actually a bit more mocha. I like the ribbon and I’m glad that I made them large. I never saw the sense in a burp cloth that didn’t cover my shoulder or my lap. Urpy babies SPEW, not dribble. The Gerber fabric and I had a little fight, but with some silk thread, I won the war. I call my diaper drawstring bags, “Just Add Diapers”. Maybe I should call these, “Just Add Spit Up”.
There are a “few” projects left to sew, and I’ll probably post them here. Every time I finish ANYTHING (sewing, mopping a floor, finishing a cup of coffee while it is hot), I jump up and down like I was just crowned Prom Queen. Or, in my case, President of The Physics Club. We can’t all be cheerleaders. SOMEONE needs to think about torque and ponder the existence of tachyons. But I digress…

We love, love, love the poncho!!! I was so moved by every aspect of the gift. Not only is it a hand sewn poncho, but the gift box was hand wrapped and the card beautifully displayed Sara’s artwork. Thank you so so much! I’ve been thinking of you so much lately. We should try to do dinner or a play date soon. Alexa would so love to play with Sara and Kelly.
