This post is not about how much I love autumn and how I allow fall decorations to creep and cover my entire first floor. Nope. This post is about my FLASH. And the fact that it’s once again working. FLASH! Did I mention my flash was working?! I…AM….ALIVE! It’s been a long time without you sweet thing. We have a SP400 flash, and without it, I am far too unschooled in photography to land a good shot of anything.
Much to Greg’s frustration, I know nothing about photography or his camera, nor do I show the slightest interest in learning how to make it work. I believe in magical thinking, after all. If I WISH for it hard enough, the camera will take a great shot, through a window, at night, of a moving object, in a rainstorm. Duh. If you are magical, you can do anything. My main interest in the flash, to put it in terms my non-techie side of the family would understand, is that if you take a picture of say, um…an old Chevy…when you take it with my flash, and put it on the computer, it looks more like a brand new BUICK. Ta-Dah! Magical, yes?
So forget that I have yet another case of bronchitis and laryngitis and spent the latter half of the day moaning in bed. Forget that I ran the games at Sara’s Pre-K Halloween party and somehow instructed 16 kids on how to play my silly games of “Mad Scientist”, “Head on a Plate”, and “Mummy Wrap” (hey Greg…we’re out of toilet paper) with absolutely no voice whatsoever. Forget that Sara, dressed as the perfect Ariel, had a perfect meltdown in front of God and everyone when the party ended. Forget that tomorrow Greg and I have Parent Teacher Conferences, and we will be discussing a small item on Sara’s report card that reads, “Sara occasionally feels the need to be the Class Clown”. Oops. WHO did she get that from? Forget that Kelly is now at Hour 48 of a complete nervous breakdown over Halloween. She’s decided that the entire blasted holiday is a frightening mess, every last bit of it “scare-deds” her, and she wants nothing to do with it whatsoever. She’s has said she doesn’t want to leave the house until A) It’s over, or B) Skeletons grown noses, or C) It’s Christmas time.
Let’s forget that this house has been burning the candle at both ends this week, has been illness free for 4 days of the last 30, and has a child so worked up about a kid’s holiday, that I’ve seen patients in the ER in bonafide mental breakdowns in less distress. Let’s forget that noise, and focus on an evening spent cuddling on the couch with the kids, a bowl of popcorn, the new Tinkerbell movie (thanks Grandma Sally!), and a working FLASH. FLASH, FLASH, FLASH, oh how I love you, my blessed FLASH.
