Small Spaces, October 2009

DSC_5356

There are some small spaces in all of our homes that are so happy, you wish you could hang out in them all day.  After moving to nearly every room and every floor of this house, my sewing space has found a home in the upstairs guest room.  A picture table has been repurposed into my sewing table.  My quilt armoire (that has functioned in countless ways in the 14 years I have owned it), has been repurposed to hold fabric, sewing books, notions, and most importantly, a portable DVD player. The quilts are nearby in a closet that desperately needed a serious clean out.  Some large pinkish red beverage buckets I found on clearance at Wal-Mart organize the different projects.  And now I can stretch out, work on one project at a time, and get creative in about half the time.  The portrait is my Grandmother’s Senior picture.  Thinking about her while I create makes everything come together just a little bit better.  The quilt that covers the table was made by my step-sister, Kristie, aka the Monet of Home Economics.  When she’s not canning produce from her garden or upholstering her furniture or refinishing her kitchen cabinets or being a top notch CPA, she is changing the brakes on her car.  Kristie, I warned you when you made it for Sara that I loved it so much I would steal it.  It took me 4 years, but I finally did!
