A Tiny Bit of Handmade

A year and a half ago, Sara grabbed a horrible remnant at the fabric store and told me she HAD to have it…or Lordy, she’d just die without this amazingly beautiful fabric.  Big print fleece with the words “I Love Mommy” and “I Love Daddy”…which would be sweet except she can’t READ.  It turned out to be the most oddly shaped remnant, and I had to sew quite a bit on a “no sew” project.  I made a blanket for Kelly backed in purple, and one for Sara backed in pink.  They came to be known as “The ABC’s” blankies and the girls sleep with them every night, making it worth the effort.

Thinking of how much they love those blankies, I bought just a bit more of this fleece.  I thought I’d make their dolls matching blankies for their playroom cribs.  I backed these with green fleece.  Great idea, right?  Apparently not.  After the thrill of the playroom unveiling, receiving these a few days into the New Year was just a denouement.  Sara wanted to know, “Why green?  Why not back on in purple and one in pink?  You know, to match the ones we have?”  WHY?  Because I already own green fleece!  I estimate that $3 remnant has now cost me 6 hours and around $15.

Oh well, I finally like this fleece, as it seems to belong in baby doll cribs.  Last night at bedtime, Sara came sneaking out of the dark playroom, shushing me as she gently closed the door.  “What’s going on Sara?”  She replied, “Keep your voice to a whisper.  I just put the babies to bed.”  I could have melted at the sweetness in her voice.  Yep…worth it.

  2. Dana, you are so sweet to comment! Thank you! That just made my day.

You and Amanda had better not have babies for a LONG LONG time!!! And yes, I’ll sew for them like they were my own girl!
