I am now convinced that no one should buy more than 1/2 yard of fleece at a time. Why? Because if you fold it and place it in your sewing cabinet, it will procreate and multiply into endless yardages of coordinating fleeces. How many projects have been born out of this stuff? 4 fall ponchos and 6 blankets. Wait? And 5 winter hats. And it ALL started with 1/2 yard of the printed fleece in the cheap-o remnant aisle that Sara just HAD to have 18 months ago. The domino effect has been astounding. Is this the final project? I have no idea! I might wake up tomorrow and find 4 more yards of this stuff just lying around. Just keep sewing, just keep sewing…
Sara starts “lunch bunch” tomorrow, which means “rest time”. She must bring her own blanket and pillow (yep…you’ll probably get to see the pillow magically appear sometime this week). In the past, she liked taking a large Christmas themed fleece blanket and a pillow, but hauling it in and out of the school in a bag larger than her twice a week for the next month seemed impractical. I asked her if she’d like me to make her a little something to keep in her cubby, to which she replied, “Only if you make it at night after I’ve gone to sleep.” Apparently, sewing while the girls are awake is inconvenient for them, and it puts me in a horrible mood (unless you’re the kind of person who likes being interrupted every 3rd stitch).
So voila! Rest time blankie is born. Measured on Sara while she was sleeping tonight in her bed. It’s ridiculously non-linear and made with a rotary cutter, my sewing machine, and next to NO measuring whatsoever. It’s the best I could do in 90 minutes with only a bit of purple thread left on the spool. The back of the blanket is an almost identical hodge-podge of the front, substituting green as the primary strip. Wanna know something odd? The green was a gift from my Mother-in-law from her fleece stash. Look at how well it matches! Uncanny…it’s like the fleece reproduction gods are watching. Not too mention, she is in town, so there has been a sewing tornado this weekend. Ahh, sweet, sweet free time given to me by Mother-in-law. I sewed while the sun was up today! Imagine that madness!
Weather tomorrow? Cloudy with a chance of pastel fleece. Tune in later this week as I make a fleece tarp large enough to cover the Colts Stadium.
