The gardens that grew sunflowers and beans last year have been turned into the girls’ “experimental” garden. They picked their own motley crew of seeds, and we planted carrots, watermelons, zinnias, and lupines. The pumpkin seeds and basil haven’t seen soil yet, and as a very non-green-thumb kind of gal, I’m wearing out quickly. After Sara carefully printed her crop names on craft sticks, and dug in the mud and the heat for an hour, she said, “Um Mommy? Gardening SOUNDS like a lot more fun than it actually is.”
Kelly said she wholeheartedly agreed. Let’s see how they feel when sprouts begin to appear. Their sunflower garden from last year was a highlight of the summer.
My own experimental garden of tomatoes (carefully surrounded by stinky marigolds) has started off tenuously, but so far, so good. Every night as I water, the bunnies watch me suspiciously, as if to say, “That’s right old woman…grow our dinner!”.

Hi, there!
We were grocery shopping when you called. Fabi had the boys here at the house. Tomorrow we will go out for breakfast with daddy but will be here glued to the TV for the world cup game with Brazil! You can stop by any time!
