Boredom & Mayhem

Do you ever feel like play dough, and toys in general, have gotten a little out of hand at your house?  The jumbo box of cookie cutter shapes, pretending to bake them on old cookie trays…it’s like, maybe I’ve let us get too far with this.  I could pretty much roll a snake-like shape as a kid and turn it into anything.  And I’m fairly certain my playtime didn’t consume the entire kitchen.  The happiest the girls were today (NOT a good day, as a matter of fact) was when they found a robin’s egg next to the garden and decided to bury it with leaves they pulled off the trees.  Took them at least 40 minutes of chit chat and running back and forth across the yard, and then they spent the day talking about it.  Some days, they can play with play dough and their cookie cutters for what seems to be forever, and sometimes, like today, they are bored in 5 minutes, and just become a nuisance of irritated whining.  How do we get our kids to move from utter boredom into dreamy imagination/play states?  If I could find this magical bridge, I would give you a map, I promise.

  1. I know what you mean – I try so hard for Scout to have no boredom – but I sort of remember being bored as a kid during the summertime too…
..it seems to make school more fun in the fall…
