When life is kicking my arse, you know, as it does from TIME TO TIME, I find that the best cure for the blues is a day with Kelly, aka Funny Bones. Or Squirt. Or Miss Hilarious. If we’re wondering where my joker gene went, check out the tiny blond chick with the laugh track that never turns off. People stop in stores just to listen to her talk. A check out lady at the dollar store followed us all the way out the car today, to finish hearing Kelly’s rant about Halloween Day vs. Halloween Time vs. Scary Things vs. Happy Things vs. Things that are only kind of scary, but still not as happy as Christmas things.
I woke up in an extremely dark place this morning. Long story, not really worth the time it would take to type. But little by little Kelly turned everything around…first, Kelly at ballet class chirping about, trying to engage everyone in a conversation about Peter Pan. Kelly running errands, explaining to the lady at the cutting counter that pink flowers are her favorite, but not as favorite as purple, but they didn’t have purple flowered fleece, and you know, pink is FINE, but not AS FINE AS PURPLE. And hey cutting lady, did you know if you bring a chipmunk in your house it will run up your pants? Did I leave out the part where she yelled full voice, “AND IT WILL PLAY IN YOUR PANTS?!!” Followed loudly by a Momma saying, “That was a Berenstain Bears episode! And what did we learn Kelly?” To which she just as loudly replied, “Chipmunks don’t belong in the house!” Whispering to me, “because they’ll play in your pants.”
I forgot that I woke up with her snuggled beside me, talking to her fingers, congratulating them on matching between hands. She then counted to 39, leaned over to me and said, “WELL. That’s ALL I KNOW! Time for waffles!”
Kelly is giddy wonderful sunshine wrapped up in skin that smells like lavender powder. Kelly is better than any antidepressant I spent years studying in my career. If we could just bottle Kelly. We could call it Kelzac and it’s tagline would be,
Kelzac. Bringing back the joy, one ridiculously silly giggle at a time.
