When I need to change my outlook, or dry some tears, or escape into my mind, OR…well, you get my point. When life gets a little too “life-y”, I disappear into my kitchen. This Thanksgiving there will be pies. Many, many pies. Noodles. Butternut squash soup. Lydia is here, so that means Ham and Corn Chowder and Apple Cake (the holidays just don’t begin here until Lydia arrives…sweet, sweet tradition). The Thanksgiving dinner still needs something green. I can’t look down at a plate covered in orange and yellow, without some green to break it up. Green bean casserole makes me cringe, so I’ll be going in a different direction. That statement alone might get me kicked out Indiana.
When I’m missing my Grandmas, as I am this year, I go to the kitchen. No matter what time of day, they are always there. We meet over the rolling pin, and they always tell me the same thing, “Everything is fine Lori Michelle. Much better than you think.”
I’m wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving this year, and as I wish you every year…I wish for you PIE.

Isn’t it wonderful when we can feel the presence of those we’ve lost around us? My Grandpa had the most jubilant way of saying, “Hi, Amie!” For some reason, I often hear that voice in my head when I get to the top of my stairs. It’s like he’s right there, absolutely delighted to see me. Cherish those memories and know that you are recreating them for Sara and Kelly.
