Deck The Halls

Greg looks at this picture and can see nothing but the sweet power of our new Nikon D3100.  We did it!  We got each other a new camera for Christmas (a few weeks early, because what’s the good of a new camera if you can’t commemorate the season?).  It has a vibration reduction lens, so I’m excited about the possibility of having sharp pictures without so much editing.

When I look at this picture, I see the lights reflecting off the floors.  As you know, Greg and I will probably go to our graves debating the utility of wood floors, and so to my fabulous husband who caved BIG TIME and let me put them in: YEP, they are loud. YEP, when the cats bat off ornaments, they break on impact.  YEP, I still love them.

I cannot begin to tell you the hours it takes Greg to create a shooting star over the house.  You might see a Christmas tree, but the girls beg Daddy for “the shooting star” every year.  And every year, even though he really, really hates being on the roof, Greg assembles this monstrosity by hand.  Poor guy.  With 2 daughters worshiping him as only daughters can do, he’ll be on that roof every Christmas for at least 30 more years.  He’ll probably still be belly-aching about the price of the wood floors, which will have NEVER needed replacing DADDY.  I’ll be nearly 70 by then.  Yep, I’ll still love them.

This wreath represents the start of the Christmas season for me.  It’s the last thing I put up, after the tree, the messy mantel, the angel, the door toppers, the plug in nightlights, the manger…you get the general knickknacky idea. The only benefit to the plain brown door is at Christmas, I can put up GLITTER.  Oh fine, I’ll admit the truth.  That door could be silver and gold striped with fireworks shooting out of the peep hole, and I’d still put up a glittery wreath.

Have you started your decorating?  What’s your favorite holiday trinket?
