Our Sara Is 6!

You think they’ll never grow up.  They’ll be babies toddling around in diapers forever.  Your life will be an endless packing of “supplies” needed for out-of-the-house survival.  The back spasm from carrying an extra 20 lbs on your hip will be a permanent feature of your being.  Sleep is only a memory, along with good health and the sense of being rested.

But it was just a moment, in retrospect.  Perhaps the longest moment of my life, but it’s condensed into a single blink.  One sunny day you’ll wake up with a 6 year old bounding into your arms, detailing her wishes for 1st grade to start so she can see her long list of friends, and how she’d like to spend the morning making jewelry.  Jewelry she now wears almost every day, along with her constant request to borrow my lipstick (um, no). Did I know in 1 short week she’ll have her own desk and locker?  MOMMY!  DID YOU KNOW?

Yes honey, Mommy knows.  Mommy knows.  Happy Birthday Big Girl Sara.  You might be changing like the wind before our very eyes, but one thing that can never change is how much Daddy and I love you.  I cried the last time I hugged my 5 year old goodnight, because I really loved 5, but I have a sneaking suspicion 6 might be equally swell.  No matter how big you get, you’ll always be my Ducky Wigglebottoms.  Momma loves you, loves you, loves you…

  2. It doesn’t seem possible. I vividly remember our first couple dinners at your house. Sara was just born and Alan and I so desperately wanted to be parents. We were so inspired watching you, Greg and Sara become a family. She’s a special one, that Sara. Can’t wait to see what this next year brings for her.

  3. Amie,

Inspiring? As she screamed through post-dinner chit-chat? Your memory is tinged by wine my friend. YOUR journey is inspiring! Happy Birthday to Miss A as well!
