Should we ever sell the house, I think I’ll list the dining room as a “studio space”. Does anyone actually USE their dining room for dining? I DO, a few times per year, but it’s so much more than that: (1) Homework, every single day, (2) School projects, at least once per quarter, (3) The annual birthday bash, which takes 8 weeks of crafting, (4) Time out location, in use far too often, (5) Look out for Grandparents and/or Cousin Avery’s arrival at the front window; it’s priceless real estate for this purpose alone.
I know some friends who don’t want a formal dining room because it never gets used, but I use mine as much as the living room. How about you? How do you utilize your dining room?

In my old house I had a dining room and it rarely was used for “dining” . It was a place where we did crafts, played games, sewed, homework, wrote letters or just to sit around and chat. In this house I don’t have a dining room and I really didn’t think I would miss having one since it was only me here, but boy am I sadly mistaken.
I am happy yours gets so much use and you are making lots and lots of memories in your home 🙂
I am currently using my dining room as a temporary kitchen. The microwave doesn’t exactly go with the china, but we’ll get through it.
I insist that we eat dinner every night together as a family at our dining room table. That is after we clean up the homework papers, newspaper, mail, or whatever emergency repair project has been placed on the table during the day. I even downsized from an 6 person rectangular table to a 4 person round. Forces us to be close and look into each others eyes when we talk. It doesn’t hurt that it was my great-grandmothers table either. Makes it a very special piece of furniture for me.
I love it Pam! We eat at the kitchen table, but it’s not the same as the dining room. In the dining room, we take our time and we aren’t surrounded by the “work” awaiting us. What a great idea you have given me!
