I Don’t Recall Asking For Your Opinion

Kelly is so much her own bird, and she needs no input from us to determine her direction.  That’s not to say we don’t offer our opinions, but, and maybe we could work on her politeness, Kelly will tell us with little room for doubt that she knows exactly what she’s doing.

Her Show-And-Tell items this year are a perfect example:

“Bring something to school that starts with a “T””

Daddy: Why are you packing a fairy Kelly?

Sara: KELLY, fairy starts with “F”!

Kelly (looking at them with a mixture of pity and frustration): It’s a TINY fairy.  T-T-T guys.  TINY.  Ah!

“Bring something to school that starts with a “F””

Daddy: Finally, it’s F week!  You can take a Fairy!

(the sound of Kelly rooting around upstairs and crying)

Mommy: Kelly, you have an entire bucket of fairies.  What’s wrong?

Kelly: I can’t take JUST a fairy!  I’ve lost Fawna the Fairy!

Mommy: I can’t believe “over the top” is a gene, and I can’t believe I’ve passed it on.

Kelly: STOP TALKING AND HELP ME FIND FAWNA!!!

“Bring something to school that starts with an “H””

Mommy: Kelly you have about 5 minutes to finish your Share item homework, and then I’m going to insist you wear your Halloween skirt that I made you.

Kelly: NO!  It’s black!  I don’t like black anymore!

Mommy: Your 2 favorite outfits are black.

Kelly: Um. OK. I don’t like the Halloween skirt you sew-ded for me.

(ugh, ugh, ugh….)

Mommy: Then the letter is “H”.  Get crackin’ sister.

(sounds of mad rushing, dashing, and thrashing about upstairs)

Kelly (running downstairs holding an orange purse shaped like a flower): I’ve got it!

Mommy: That’s a purse.  P.  Purse.

Kelly: It’s a HARD-SIDED purse.  See? (knocking on the purse)  HARD.

Mommy: That it is.  Put it in your SOFT-SIDED backpack please.

[insert the sound of my little baby girl giggling as she walks away…]

And while I’m on the subject, wasn’t it just yesterday that Kelly was our own tiny soft-sided fairy?  FAST.  Life with the 2nd baby goes by so, so fast.

  1. Avery’s show and tell rationale was just like Kelly’s! We had the exact same crazy “morning of” conversations about the show and tell letter of the week. Do they share a brain?!! Is there an instructional manual that Avery secretly passed on to Kelly? See what you can find out when the letter is “S.” (for “secret manual” of course.)
