If you recall this time last fall, our girls announced they went down to the feeder to watch a play about Nazis. Thank heavens I read flyers in the hallway, because I was able to discern they went to the Theater to see a play about a spider named Anansi. Fast forward 1 year, and it was Sara’s turn to be in the 1st Grade musical about that tricky little spider.
This musical was easier to costume than our last. No dog costumes required (although I really liked making it, and am already dreaming about Kelly being cast next year as the Poodle). In fact, Sara made her own costume, and I sewed a yellow tail with brown fringe which is hooked to that belt. You can’t see it….nope. You can barely see her. Because the Momma who makes it to an 8:45 am musical in a pouring rainstorm with a crying 4 year old in tow, after nagging her husband to pick her up a cup of coffee, then buys her own thinking he won’t, but then he does, and there she sits in a “feeder” (literally), being climbed by “Kelly the Fussy” while holding 2 cups of hot coffee? That Momma? She forgot the camera. You betcha! I had to use my camera phone, and considering I can barely dial the thing, it’s unlikely I’m a skilled photographer with it.
Truth be told, I liked both musicals. I feel she brought as much love and energy to her role as a lion as she did to her part as a Dalmatian. And let’s not forget last year’s role in the Virtual Zoo when she was the contrary Rainbow Lorikeet. But I fear she’s being typecast in only animal roles. What does that say for career longevity? She can only play animal vertebrates for so long and then what? Who will see her as anything OTHER than a furry or feathered friend? It’s limiting for someone with her range. She was deeply attached to her Buckeye Butterfly, a stellar non-vertebrate, but she didn’t PORTRAY the butterfly. I mean seriously, you see my point? It’s like…I don’t know…I’m hoping during her Health Unit she gets cast as a bacteria, just to save her career!
