Stealth Play!

Kelly finished her organ vest last week at school.  I was so excited for this project to come home.  What’s better than wearing your organs on a bib for the world to see?  You can see Sara’s here.

After baths, I read to the girls, and then they take turns at the hair dryer.  It is GENERALLY understood that the girl not receiving her salon blow out is to remain in bed, with the lights dimmed, and in a resting state of mind.  Kelly, however, KELLY (did we have any doubts the mischievous part of this story would involve Kelly?), had other plans last night.  She didn’t know through the magic of the bathroom mirror, I could see into the hallway.  As I dried Sara’s hair, I looked up and saw Kelly sneaking from the playroom into her bedroom with an ENTIRE GROCERY CART!  Where did she think she was going to hide that thing?  She looked like the Pink Panther, slinking through the darkened hallway, head down, tiny feet making vain attempts at being quiet.

As I dashed into the bedroom and yelled, “BUSTED!”, she immediately started to cry.  Through her bellows, she attempted to plead some sort of case for wanting to play.  I burst out laughing when I saw wooden groceries all over the floor, which meant she had actually made more than 1 trip back and forth between the rooms before I caught her.  She must have built some confidence making those runs under the radar!

“In bed young lady.  Stay in bed until I call you.”  Reluctantly, she crawled into bed while I carried her week’s worth of grocery shopping back into the playroom.  After I finished Sara’s hair, I called Kelly into the bathroom.

Mommy: Kelly, did you stay in bed?

Kelly: Um…well…yes?

Mommy: Really, Kelly?!  Really.  Because you’re wearing a pair of my shoes.

Kelly: AHH!!! (tears, tears)  But I wanted to play!!

Mommy: I’ll give you this child. You are STEALTHY.

I find it amazing the lengths children will go to in order to have a few more minutes of play.  I’m going to invent a magical pill that will channel that energy into cleaning up after the playing is done.  Who will be a 1 Percenter then?!  Huh?  ME, that’s who!

  1. Sadly, my youngest daughter does not seem to the ninja intuition I’ve tried so hard to instill in her. I will remedy this at once dear.
