As we were waiting the 20 minutes for our chocolate to melt during one of many “Holiday Bark Cookie Making Sessions” (i.e. chocolate apocalypse in my kitchen), I handed the girls the Nikon and asked them to take some Christmas Postcard pictures. Sara took this picture of Gabriel, and it caused me to pause and remember WHY we make the Bark Cookies. And wrap the presents. And put up the tree. And run around like chickens with our heads cut off. We say we’re living in a Godless world, yet every single year, we shut down the country for an entire month while we celebrate Jesus’ birth as if it’s the party to end all parties. Every year, we complain that we start Christmas earlier and earlier, but isn’t that just our hearts trying to expand the best time of year? We seem to cling to every last day of December, which is just one long month of God. We cry at moving carols on the radio. We open our checkbooks as if the world is ending tomorrow. I don’t know about you, but contrary to what I read in the paper, I see God everywhere. Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. And blessed whatever you call him. Or her. As I’m sure we all know it’s neither. So for whatever the truth may be (and I doubt there is 1), Happy December to you all.

Bless you, Lori! All of life sings, every day, in every thing.
