Sara asked if she could play “Teacher”. We went into the basement, laid down on big pillows and the gym mat, and she read The Curious Garden. If you don’t have this picture book, it’s well worth it. It’s the Lorax…in reverse. Or perhaps it’s the Lorax, Part II, when things get cleaned up and start growing again. Avery read a classic from my childhood (the copy from my own childhood bookshelf), Miss Suzy. Stories about squirrels in cozy trees never gets old. Kelly “read” Lissy’s Friends, one of our all-time favorites. A little girl has trouble making friends at her new school, so she makes origami friends instead. Her origami animal art draws the attention of kids at the playground, and so she finally makes “real” friends. Lovely, lovely, lovely, with bright, origami pages.
