The End Of A Summer Day
We started with waffles, and then it seemed obligatory to make a paper-mache volcano. WHICH, meant we were covered in goo, so it only made sense to jump in the pool. In our pajamas. I didn’t want them to miss our weekly vegetable lesson; the girls trimmed and stir-fried their own snow pea pods. Yummy. And no one got burned…so far, so good.
A full scale game of “load the minivan” came next, because we decided to meet some friends at our favorite watering spot: a sprinkler park with a man-made creek that runs down a hill, surrounded by large boulders and shale. Damns were constructed, things were hauled, kids were wet and happy. But that meant we were also hot in the sun, so it seemed prudent to stop by a serve yourself frozen yogurt restaurant where Miss Avery managed to construct a $6 bowl of yogurt. Gracious! The 8 kids in tow (remember when that felt impossible to manage?..funny how times change…no drama whatsoever yesterday) seemed thrilled with their “big kids table” and “little kids couch” arrangement, but alas, we had to run: Math Tutoring at the library.
Worksheets for Avery and Kelly while Sara worked at becoming a math wizard (check!), hole punching on their Summer Reading Program cards…much to do, much to do. Aunt Jenny got stuck in traffic, so rather than our usual Thursday night dinner at Avery’s house, we decided to meet in the middle for dinner. The location of which put me directly across the street from Greg’s Ultimate Father’s Day Gift, and I talked the girls into a couple of quick errands.
When I pulled into the garage at 7:30 pm, I turned around and realized…uh-oh. I broke the baby.
*Thank you to everyone for you kinds words, prayers, and wishes for Max’s recovery. He is the same. We got him to eat, but he didn’t keep it down. One minute he seems OK, and the next, completely off. Another lab draw tomorrow…more waiting. And a big thanks to my Mom for coming down yesterday to help me. CLEARLY, yesterday was made possible by the addition of helping hands. I couldn’t have done that much in a single day on my own if I had downed a pot of coffee laced with a stimulant.*
