A Rainbow Art Party Thank You

I saw a similar card on Pinterest, made with coordinating green papers, and I thought, “Cool.  That would be easy to make.  I’ll do rainbows instead, and send them out after Kelly’s Rainbow Art Party.”  The Pinterest Fates were LISTENING.  And then they swooped in and burned my fingers off with a hot glue gun.  But who cares, because my cards are so CUTE!

First, I cut white card stock into 8″x6″ squares and folded.  Next, I cut 2″x2″ squares of the Roy G. BiV, minus the “i”, because Indigo is bullshit man.  You can’t just THROW IN EXTRA LETTERS to make your acronym work. I don’t care if you fall into the “pro indigo” camp or the “there is no indigo” camp.  I think we can all agree it doesn’t belong in a Rainbow Party theme.  You can’t argue with me because I don’t enjoy politics.  Or indigo.

I used a tiny dowel rod to roll the papers and put a strip of hot glue a good 1/2″ before the edge.  It will roll out to the edge.  It will burn your leg.  WEAR OLD PANTS.

You’ll end up with a lot of these.  If you’re anything like me, you’ll have to throw about 25% away because they suck.  If you are really like me, you won’t calculate how many of these suckers you’ll have to roll to write all of your thank you notes.  Let me drop a hint: this project is really great for a *few* cards.  11?  TOO MANY.

Next I marked a faint line in the center of the card with a pencil, put on a strip of glue, and laid the seam side down, holding each “candle” up against the stack as I went.  This part was actually very easy, and very fast.  No burns.  Bonus!  And yes, to answer your question, I am double-jointed.  It was fun earlier in life, but growing more painful as the years roll on.  As much as I work with my hands, there is just more of me to be stiff.

Now onto the wick.  How to make the wick?  I made a mock up with a pen, and this would have been fine, but when have you known me to stop at fine?  If you want to join the “Lori should stop at fine” club, my therapist and husband hold regular meetings, but I’m warning you, the dues are steep.  Use the pen, drop the words off (unless you have amazing handwriting, which I don’t), and be done with it.  Awesome.

OR, remember that you have navy blue elastic thread, cut long strips, put tiny drops of Elmer’s glue on the end, feed them into the paper candles, let them dry, and trim them off.  You will be rewarded later because elastic thread frays, and it curls up, giving the appearance of smoke.  WHO IS OVER THE TOP NOW?! Take that Pinterest.

I mailed them wrapped in bubble wrap, and I’m hoping for the best.  If I’m wrong, to heck with it.  The Pinterest Fates win again.  But you have to try, you know?! Sara chose her thank you notes yesterday, and they are very 2-dimensional.  That girl might be onto something…

  1. Hahahaha! Look, if you ever stopped at fine, your shrink would be out of a job, your husband would be confused, and the rest of us would have nothing to aspire to. 😀
