She was a beautiful Zebra in the 1st grade Musical. She sang beautifully with her class at Grandparent’s Day. She’s taken on 1st Grade, Part II by academic storm. She has the energy for gymnastics and an after school Acting Club. Her math progress is the celebration of the entire staff. She’s wonderful in so many ways…and she’s having some trouble making new friends. Not because the kids aren’t sweet as pie (my goodness, they are just beyond precious, and Sara likes them a bushel and a peck full), but they are confused by her longing to be with her old friends. I’ve now put 2 and 2 together: because she was with the same kids for 4 years, Sara has never really developed “make new friends” skills. Oops. I didn’t see that coming. She’s so social, but it’s because she’s been at her school since before her permanent memory began. If we didn’t tell her otherwise, she might think she was born in those hallways. And in a way, she was. We may have given her life, but her school has performed miracles in giving her a life.
I know I’ve asked for so many prayers here, but you see…here’s the thing: they keep working. So I keep asking. Would you pray for Sara this weekend? Pray that she perseveres in her efforts to make new friends? That the sorrow she feels for being left behind lessens? Pray that Greg and I can parent her through this newest maze? We feel so blessed and thankful to be having this rather average kid problem, but still, we’re drying a lot of tears these days. Godspeed my friends.
