Apologies: for those of you who read, or were planning to read yesterday’s post, “It’s OK To Be Smart. Period.”, I moved it off the blog this morning. I decided to submit it for publication. Potential publication. I’m on quite a successful run of un-publication, and without rejections, what would I have? But you gotta try. Always the trying.
Speaking of creative endeavors, Sara performed beautifully as a Cook in a school production of “Jack And The Beanstalk”. Maybe you don’t remember the Cook. Or the musical version of this classic tale. Well, I can assure you, this story is FAR more interesting when sung…and full of Cooks. And when Jack is played by a young girl named Eleanor (Kelly’s hero, in case you were wondering). The Giant was also played by a girl, who had a comedic timing so undeniably perfect, I laughed until I cried.
While we are in the “in-between” of activities, we’ve been enjoying some down-time. Daddy loves introducing to the girls to new gadgets, so he bought them both invisible ink markers and their very own black light flashlights. Giggling, screaming, lots of thank yous to Daddy. Something to investigate while we debate Swim Classes vs. Violin lessons. Let me repeat:
GREG BOUGHT THE GIRLS INVISIBLE INK. OUR GIRLS.
You know them, right?
This story ends exactly as you suspect. Sara’s guilt got the best of her tonight, and she had a full-scale meltdown before bedtime, confessing her crimes. Her blubbering was so authentically tearful, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Only Chunk from the Goonies had a more mournful confessional. She began by swearing the stars perfectly drawn on the brand new paint in our bedroom was an accident, but even Sara could see the flaw in that logic. I could have bought the random marks on my brand new window seat were accidental, but stars? Even the cats wouldn’t buy it.
I’ve been walking around the house with a black flashlight of my own, looking for my Invisible Picasso’s work. Which begs the question: do you repaint marker stains that only crime scene detectives can see? Now that I think about it, I should have given these girls Invisible Markers years ago. Think of the destruction I could have stopped. Attention Inventors! I’m going to need you to work on invisible paint, invisible toothpaste, invisible cat hair…
