Kelly has begun her final Kindergarten Project, which is Dealer’s Choice. The kids have done many animal reports, so it must be anything but an animal. Kelly wants to study Pegasus, and she and her teacher agreed a mythical animal that flies probably skirts outside of the essence of why animals are excluded. SCORE FOR KELLY!
Tonight, we cracked open the research books, and she began reading, followed by a horrified response any 5 year old would have to an introduction to Mythology.
Kelly: Wait. WAIT. Perseus chopped off a monster’s head that was made of snakes, and out of the dead monster’s blood, Pegasus was born and started to fly?
Mommy: Yep.
Kelly: THAT’S DISGUSTING!
Kelly: And a Prince rode Pegasus to kill a lion that breathes fire and is half goat?! And you can’t even pronounce that monster’s name?
Mommy: It’s Ch…it’s Chi…it’s something that makes me want to say chimichanga. Forget I said that.
Kelly: THIS IS WRONG. This is NOT the Pegasus…wait. Just hold on a second (takes off to the basement).
Kelly: (returning with a Barbie movie in hand, picturing Barbie riding on the back of a rainbow Pegasus): THIS. I wanted to study Pegasus in THE MOVIES. Especially THIS MOVIE.
Mommy: But Kelly, that’s not the real Pegasus.
Kelly: But Pegasus isn’t REAL to begin with, so what makes the difference which fake Pegasus I study?
Mommy: Wow. Excellent point.
Kelly: THIS ONE. I’m focusing on this one. Is Medusa in hell? She’s in hell right? And she can’t get out?
Mommy: Medusa was never real either.
Kelly: RIGHT. Right.
