Fastest.year.ever. I blinked, and the year I thought would last a century, was over in a split second. Vertebrates, Invertebrates, Pilgrims, Communication, Simple Machines, Space, Independent Reports, Science Fair, Daisy Scouts, the President Elect position, Health and Anatomy, the Auction, Spirit Week, Art Contest, Violin Lessons, Acting Class, Swimming Lessons, Math Tutoring, International Studies, Twice-Exceptional Support Group Meetings (oh Thank the Lord), Insect-A-Palooza, and I lost track of how many Art Classes, Math Classes, Class Parties, Field Trips, and Language Arts Classes I served as volunteer. Lunch duty, recess duty…BLUR. It has been an amazing year. A growing year. A tremendous year. I really, really cherished this one. Despite illnesses and exhaustion from the sheer pace of it, the girls really thrived. I spent more peaceful days at home than ever before. I had more balance than I’ve managed in years past. For one little school year, we got out ahead of the wave, and saw some sunshine.
I’m not a Room Parent this year, so I’m not in charge of year end gifts, but SHAH! I had to make cards! Amphibians are featured on the card above (in honor of the Vertebrate Unit), and Dragonflies are on the card below (Invertebrates with its corresponding Insect-A-Palooza remains one of my Top 3 Favorite Units). And to the dear teacher who dedicated 2 full years to getting us out into the sunshine, her gift will be posted tomorrow. I’ll give you a hint: it’s warm, and starts with a “Q”.
The cards were made with paint sample strips, hole punches, and my new favorite toy: A Glue Pen. A pen which dispenses GLUE at the rate of ink. Perfect for stars smaller than my pinky nail. How have I not owned this little gadget?
I hope your School Years are ending in peace and joy, and I wish for you an adventuresome and safe summer. Fine…one more hint for those of you whom have emailed and asked for this summer’s theme: We’ll be featuring a Summer of…(starts with an “S” and involves beakers, messes, and hopefully no explosions).

Chris,
Ha! I knew you’d get it!
Oh….you know I LOVE to win on your blog….even when there is no giveaway! So I guess “Quilt” and “Summer of Science”. Yes??? Both sound very cool. I ADORE your themes for the summers and totally love reading your posts about them!! Am I right???!!!!!
Sarah, You win!! You totally WIN!! The gift of admiration and a moment to bask in the glow of people saying, “That Sarah…she’s a smart lady. I LIKE HER!” Thank you so much for the compliment. I know I’m a bit of a kook with my themes, but I love a good theme. And quilt!
I am basking in the glow….never mind we are currently having strong thunderstorms here in Wisconsin and I am working in my classroom to try and pack it up and get things set for our last week of school…..I am still just basking!! HA! HA! I did just see and read your post about THE QUILT! Amazing! As a teacher I would dream to have that type of positive effect on my students….how wonderful and deserving Mrs B sounds. I hope she’s wrapped up with a good book as well. One more week and I can do that! The quilt is a work of love, full of art, and speaks of talent, growth, admiration and life! You totally captured it, Lori!! xoxo
