These remind me of wandering through Prague. If you like glass, get thee to Eastern Europe.
Fridays are occasionally my day off. My weekends are non-stop. This house fills ups with little people, asking me for…stuff. And the food! They want to be fed, like…all the time. Doing bug dioramas and making 3 meals a day is fun, but not relaxing. When I commit to my Fridays, I usually score only a few hours, but they are oh-so-sweet. Sometimes, I get the urge to just see things. That’s women, isn’t it? We swear men are visual, but so are we. We just want to look at pretty things. Pinterest, anyone?
If you live in Versailles, you’ll need these for your next dinner party.
Last week was the Hoosier Antique Show, and while it’s pricey, it’s always full of nice things to see. Last year was too much furniture, and this year had too much glass, but I’m never buying, so why do I care? I just want to see things I’ve never seen before, and Friday was no disappointment. The 90+ temperatures left us, a cool and sunny day appeared, so I headed out to the Fairgrounds.
Can you put grocery store olive oil in this? Is this allowed?
The biggest Indy’s kids consignment sale was on site as well, which means pay for parking once, hit 2 shows. Awesome. I was hit by Day-Off Good-Karma. The antique sellers came from all over the country, and were so pleasant about me and my camera. I find a smile and a nice ask usually does the trick.
The dealer said she could go as low as $700. Right. Unless I can wear it or eat it, it’s not coming home with me.
I think just having the luxury to wander around is about enough. Just some free time and nowhere to be, and no agenda. No trips to the warehouse store. No picking up Kuns at the violin shop. No stopping by the grocery…again. Feeding a family is a full time job. I had no idea.
Shelves of rainbow glass. Someday.
And definitely no time at the gym. Greg would like me to want to work out. He’s into health, without even a hint of vanity. Who can be that good? But why would I want to work out? Ugh. Sweat and pain…that’s not my idea of a day off. There are a couple of you right now, jumping up and down with weights in your hands, shouting above the techno music that working out FEELS GREAT! Not in my body it doesn’t. I do it often enough, but not on my Fridays.
What is this? And why did the dealer have them in every color? It’s a very tiny punch bowl? It’s the world’s fanciest jelly bean bowl?
Usually I go to an early matinee on my day off. I love going to the movies alone. It’s just me, a tub of popcorn, and the retirees, taking in a 10 am movie. I can take my chances and see movies others are afraid to try. Greg’s such a gamer, but he can only handle so many independent movies a year. I can’t blame him…it’s a crapshoot, this act of watching movies with me. My latest indie find is “Celeste and Jesse Forever”. It’s surprising, funny, and thought-provoking. Andy Samberg stretched himself, and hit it right on the mark. Good for him!
Salad would taste better in these dishes, but storing them would kind of suck. Before I buy anything, I ask myself where I would store it.
Sometimes I take myself out to a nice lunch. 99% of the time, I’m with a gang of gals who make me laugh until I nearly pee my pants, but sometimes, it’s just me and a magazine. Before Greg and the kids, I took myself out to dinner and movies alone, and I found that people stared. Dinner and a movie alone on Saturday night = weird. Lunch and movie alone on Friday = totally cool. People are funny. I’m a great date! Why wouldn’t I take myself out on occasion?
$4900. Wow. Do you take Box Tops as payment?
I do pedicures once in a while, but I have such ugly feet, the investment feels frivolous. Pig on a lipstick, my friends. Can’t have it all.
The pure tangerine glass I’m always trying to find for the The Beast. It’s hard to find it without yellow or red hues. This dealer knew that, and priced his glass accordingly. It didn’t come home with me, but it was quite pretty.
Perhaps my favorite are the days at Consignment Shops, where I actually shop. Last week was consignment for kids…not as fun, but hey…yeah for them! Cooler temperatures are upon us, so it’s nearly time for the great closet switch-out. That’s a full Saturday morning. “Try this one. No, really, try it on. Does this still fit? Can you hand it down to Kelly? Where did these stains come from?” Again, Saturday. Not my day off. But Friday? I’m in love.
Oh Lordy. I just referenced antiques, Independent Films, and The Cure in one post. I’d better go to the gym and get some blood flow to ma’ brain. So, tell me. What do you do during your unscheduled “me time”?

Read. Watch an old movie. Sit on the couch and enjoy the quiet. Oh the quiet.
Amen honey. Amen to the quiet.
