A Wedding Theme Is Upon Us

Sara’s teacher very recently got engaged, and I tell you this so you can prepare yourself for the stories I’m sure are to come.

This will be all the talk between 2 little girls I know.  This will be the theme of their play.  This will be their dress up of choice.  And in all honesty, after a long, long, LONG Kate Middleton pregnancy, I’m looking forward to a theme that doesn’t involve them walking around with stuffed animals shoved up their shirts.

I wrote to Sara’s teacher to congratulate her, to let her know Sara has already acted out her wedding, and if she needs to borrow a tiny drawer of doves, apparently we have it to lend. I think unicorns at weddings are optional, but then again, so are gymnastic uniforms. Oh gracious, this is going to get very cute, very quickly.  Who doesn’t love weddings?! And tiny girls in veils?!  Good times, good times.

P.S. To the lovely reader who emailed me her thoughts on the meaning of the toy tower, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Your witty analysis comparing the epic burp in Yertle the Turtle along with the counter-intuitive (or NOT) comparison of the baby to absolute power…was the highlight of my day.  While I agree with you in scholarly spirit, my heart is still stuck on the maudlin works of Hugo, and the feeling that the tower represents the makeshift wall in Les Mis.  Dark…too dark.  Your Seussical take on the tower has to more accurate, I know. We both agree it was abstract, and meant to stand in spoof of someone.  Who could spoof Seuss?  Can you spoof the ultimate spoofer? Sara and Kelly could.  GOD.  YOU’RE RIGHT.  When you’re right, you’re right.  In any case, thank you.  Your writing today was deeply humorous and thought-provoking….truly made my day.  Any readers wishing to send their thoughts on the Toy Towers’ meanings, I promise to publish them all in parallel. And you know I’m crazy enough to do it.  Lydia, I’ll expect yours by morning.

  1. Looking forward to cake decorating practice before the big event. Have the girls planned the menu or will they be the caterers?

I’m thinking Sara needs to organize and execute an engagement party or bridal shower. I wonder what would be on a second grade need list for the bride.

  2. Ice cream sundae. Duh. Any idiot can see that this tower is obviously an ice cream sundae. Note the purple, yellow, turquoise, and pink sprinkles around the edge, the pile of fluffy whipped cream, and the dollop of chocolate sauce and strawberry sauce on top! Revolutions and proletariats….Pshaw! Sprinkles, man, it’s all about the sprinkles!
