I’ve written my 3rd piece for Indy’s Child Magazine, again, just as before, a truly enriching experience for me. It was not writing that “came suddenly”. I hecked and pecked at this post for a full month. But in reality, when I look back at it, it has been swirling inside of me since Sara was born. I felt an immense sense of relief as the words finally spilled through my fingers.
I have a resume that screams, “Dear God, give this Momma a child exactly like Sara.” And so he did. But not for any of the reasons listed on a CV which is now gathering dust in my basement. I had so much ego, and so much bravado…all which simply needed to die. I needed to grow as a human, and shrink as a figment of my own imagination. I needed to parent a Special Needs child with more love than I thought a human could hold. Being a parent has nothing to do with qualifications, and even less to do with professional pedigree.
Nothing on God’s green earth could have prepared me to parent a Twice-Exceptional child. And I do believe what God has been trying to tell me these past 8 years is: that’s the whole point.
You can read “6 Ways I Wasn’t Prepared For A Special Needs Child” here. I hope you find it useful in your own journey. Godspeed, my friends.
